  • How To: Neuroaffirming Care & Your Family

Neuroaffirming Care & Your Family

What is Neuroaffirming Care?

Neuroaffirming care follows the neurodiversity movement. People who follow this movement believe that different neurotypes (like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, etc.) are part of human diversity.

Providers who offer neuroaffirming care tend to use a strengths-based treatment model. Examples of neuroaffirming care might include helping clients to:

  • Improve self-confidence and acceptance
  • Self-advocate for sensory accommodations
  • Identify strengths and apply them to challenging situations

Neuroaffirming care does not discount the fact that having a different neurotype is often very disabling. But instead of seeking to "fix" the person, these types of providers seek out ways to change environments to help their clients find success.
